Barattolino adopts FSC® certified paper

News

Sammontana announces its decision to switch to FSC® certified paper packaging for Barattolino, demonstrating its commitment to the mission of the Forest Stewardship Council®. For over 25 years, this non-profit organisation has been at the forefront of promoting forest management practices that are environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically sustainable.

The transition to paper packaging, replacing the previous entirely plastic packaging for the Barattolino range, significantly reduces CO2 emissions. According to the Carbon Footprint assessment conducted on the entire product line, this change results in a 9% reduction in emissions over the product's lifecycle compared to the previous version. These efforts align with the commitments made in 2016 through the Voluntary Agreement signed with the then Ministry of Environment, as part of the National Program for reducing the environmental impact of gelato.

"We embarked on this journey years ago, with the aim of continuously improving our business processes and the environmental performance of our products. Today, we proudly reaffirm our commitment, as we believe it is the only way to leave behind a resilient company and a healthier planet," commented Leonardo Bagnoli, CEO of Sammontana. "The introduction of FSC certified paper packaging for Barattolino allows us to further enhance our sustainability efforts and meet the demands of consumers who are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of products."
