Alliances and collaborations for Sustainability

Sammontana has also decided to participate in various working groups alongside other companies to open up opportunities for dialogue and growth with organizations equally committed to sustainability. These collaborations aim to share experiences and visions regarding possible paths for improving their impacts on the environment, territories e communities and commitment to future generations.

Italian Ministry for the Environment


Sammontana was the first gelato production company in our country to sign a Voluntary Agreement with the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Sea in 2016.  By signing this agreement, Sammontana embarked on a certified and transparent path towards an integrated environmental management approach. The alliance with the Ministry is periodically renewed, demonstrating the value of Sammontana's commitment and the concrete benefits it generates. In 2019, in fact, the company renewed the agreement, including initiatives aimed at a model increasingly focused on circular economy principles.

 

Starting from 2021, the company and the Ministry of Ecological Transition signed a new agreement that expands the commitment to the frozen pastry sector. This agreement aims to establish category standards for the industry, intensifying work on the lifecycle of packaging and developing eco-design projects for both gelato and desserts. 


C.U.R.A, Spinlife, and the University of Padua


The University of Padua is the research partner that has been supporting Sammontana since the beginning of its sustainability journey. di ricerca che affianca Sammontana fin dall’inizio del suo percorso strutturato alla sostenibilità. The collaboration started with C.U.R.A - the Consortium for Applied Research of the University - analysing the carbon footprint of Sammontana's iconic product, Barattolino, by evaluating its entire lifecycle. With Spinlife, a spin-off of the University of Padua, the study on greenhouse gas emissions lo studio delle emissioni di gas serra,  was expanded using the scientific LCA approach, broadening the scope to include the frozen desserts sector. 

 

Over the years, the partnership has been strengthened through new projects focusing on assessing circularity indices within the company and its partner beach resorts. 

 

Within the University of Padua, Sammontana collaborates with Cesqa (Center for Quality and Environmental Studies) on regulatory aspects related to product footprints and environmental impacts.


Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and Ergo


Our collaboration with Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna has a long history and revolves around the main project called “i Lidi Green” (green beach resorts). Together with Sammontana, the school developed the questionnaire and defined the sustainability criteria used to select the most high-performing beach resorts in terms of green practices, and now also in terms of social commitment.

In collaboration with Ergo, a spin-off of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa,  and other prestigious partners, Sammontana has worked on the creation of "Made Green In Italy". This environmental assessment and communication scheme aims to enhance Italian products with the best environmental performance, based on the European method Product Environmental Footprint (PEF).


Legambiente


The collaboration between Legambiente and Sammontana began in 2017 with the campaign  “Sammontana pulisce la spiaggia vicino a casa tua” (Sammontana cleans the beach near your home) to raise awareness among local communities about the importance of protecting beaches and marine ecosystems. This initiative is still supported by the company.

 

Over the years, the collaboration has grown and expanded to include the project “La Carovana dei Ghiacciai”, (the Caravan of Glaciers) a Legambiente campaign in collaboration with the Italian Glaciological Committee (CGI) e and with Sammontana as the main partner. The project monitors the health status of the most important Alpine glaciers, raising awareness about the effects of climate change on the alpine glacial environment.stanno avendo sull’ambiente glaciale alpino. In 2020, with the launch of the GreenGo ice lolly, Sammontana dedicated the sales revenue of the product to the regeneration project of the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino forest in Trentino-Alto Adige, which was affected by the Vaia cyclone in 2018. This area is also involved in Legambiente's monitoring project.


Confindustria Firenze


As part of the promotional activity of the Confindustria (Confederation of Italian Industries) in Florence, Sammontana has joined a group of companies that have decided to adopt a measurement system for their circularity index developed by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa. After an initial assessment, Sammontana was evaluated as a "proactivist company", indicating that the company has already initiated and structured a path towards circularity, with a good level of awareness within the organisation regarding the importance of circular economy as a lever for economic development while respecting the environment.

 

The partnership with Confindustria Florence also involves ongoing discussions with the most important companies in the Tuscan region, aiming to exchange best practices related to sustainable commitment.


Revet


Sammontana, together with Revet, a company specialised in the collection, sorting, and treatment of materials intended to recycling, has designed cafés furniture kits made from recycled plastic sourced from over 200 municipalities in Tuscany. These kits have been introduced at Sammontana's partner beach resorts throughout Italy. The two companies have combined their innovative capabilities to bring circular economy principles to Italy, making Sammontana's partner beach establishments more eco-friendly and adding new value to the Lidi Green project.

 

This project represents another step in Sammontana's journey to promote a among beachgoers and consumers that emphasizes the importance of waste recycling and the safeguarding of the entire marine ecosystem.


Regenerative Society Foundation


As a founding member, Sammontana has joined the Regenerative Society Foundation, established in 2020 to promote a new model of socioeconomic development that generates shared value and benefits for the environment and society.
