FIGHTING FOOD WASTE

SAMMONTANA ITALIA, IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE FARM TO FORK DIRECTIVE, HAS EMBARKED ON A STRATEGY TO COMBAT FOOD WASTE, AIMING TO ACHIEVE ZERO WASTE. THE COMPANY IS TAKING DECISIVE STEPS TO REDUCE WASTAGE OF RAW MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS.

Sammontana has been optimising inventory management to minimise excess stock, carefully managing the shelf-life of products, and finding efficient ways to extend it. The circular management of production waste has played a crucial role in their efforts.

At their Colognola ai Colli (Verona) facility,

they have achieved an impressive

90% reuse rate of pastry excess.

By reworking recipes, they've successfully recovered

140 tons of dough in 2022,

successfully maintaining the same high product quality.

Furthermore, their approach includes thoughtful packaging design to minimise product leftovers and clear communication regarding proper product storage for consumers on their packaging.

Sammontana Italia is committed to a sustainable future by actively tackling food waste and promoting responsible consumption practices.

DONATION OF UNSOLD PRODUCTS

FOR SEVERAL YEARS, SAMMONTANA HAS BEEN DEDICATED TO CIRCULARITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY BY DONATING ITS SURPLUS PRODUCTS TO CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FONDAZIONE BANCO ALIMENTARE ONLUS.

Recently, the company has joined forces with the Regusto platform, which utilises blockchain technology to ensure maximum transparency and traceability of product flows. Through this collaboration, Sammontana donates unsold products from its warehouse within a month of reaching the Minimum Conservation Date (TMC). Regusto also generates a detailed report on the donated items over a specific period, translating the quantity of products given into equivalent meals and the amount of CO2 saved.

As a result of these efforts,

an impressive 236,000 kg

of products have been donated

in the last 3 years,

making a positive impact on both communities and the environment. Sammontana continues to work towards a sustainable future, promoting circularity and supporting those in need through their innovative initiatives.

Commitments to Responsible Sourcing

ENSURING SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS IS A TOP PRIORITY FOR SAMMONTANA. WE STRIVE TO SOURCE RAW MATERIALS FROM TRACEABLE AND RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAINS, RELYING ON SUPPLIERS WHO NOT ONLY PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY BUT ALSO DEMONSTRATE RELIABILITY AND OPERATIONAL RIGOR.

These partnerships are often longstanding, and the company selects suppliers based on strict environmental and social sustainability criteria. These criteria have recently been encapsulated in a collaborative effort with key suppliers, resulting in the creation of a Supplier Code of Conduct, which is periodically monitored through inspections.

SAMMONTANA'S COMMITMENTS TO RESPONSIBLE SOURCING ARE EVIDENT IN OUR CHOICE OF CERTIFIED INGREDIENTS:
